Quibdó, the capital city of the Chocó region of Colombia, could have no better ambassador than Choc Quib Town. Singing with pride for their home, Choc Quib Town combine Afro-Caribbean hip-hop with rumba, reggae, and funk. Chocó is a region of Colombia on the Pacific Coast too often neglected from Colombian public consciousness, government assistance, and media attenton. With its historically large population of African Colombians, it is considered by Choc Quib Town as the "Africa inside Colombia." The region's diversity, customs, and social inequalties are major themes in Choc Quib Town's music. Choc Quib Town made their full-length recording debut in 2006 with the independently released Somos Pacífico. While they have surged in popularty in Colombia, the world is noticing too. Choc Quib Town recently performed several sold-out performances in early 2009 at the famed South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
