South African artist, Natasja de Wet, conjures portraits of angst and feelings of conflict with a cathartic level of boldness. Through the use of a broad range of mediums, including oil painting, mixed media, and sculpture, her works can evoke vulnerability and heaviness of heart but also strength. This is particuarly true of her "Living in the Process" and "OCD" series in which the human faces depicted appear both intimate and dreamlike. Natasja's three-dimensional assemblages are similarly dramatic and powerful, often consisting of found items. She will be representing South Africa in the Florence Biennale in December 2009.
