It would not be an exaggeration to say Novalima has single-handedly reintroduced Afro-Peruvian music to the world. Formed in 2001, Novalima updates Peru's Afro-Peruvian musical heritage with dub, electronica, and latin influences. While based in Lima, Peru, Novalima was formed by four friends, Ramón Perez Prieto, Grimaldo Del Solar, Rafael Morales, and Carlos Li Carrillo, while each was living in Lima, Barcelona, London, and Hong Kong, respectively. Working with a numerous special guests from all over the world, including Cuban hip-hop group Obsesión, New Zealand jazz keyboardist Mark de Clive Lowe, and Spanish alternative rock artist Gecko Turner, Novalima is bringing Afro-Peruvian to a new audience. In 2006 Novalima was awarded with the Independent Music Award for Best Album in the World Fusion category.
